BARBER-OBERWORTMANN HORTICULTURAL CENTER AT PILCHER PARK

Visitors to the Barber-Oberwortmann Horticultural Center will be given a multitude of leisure opportunities.  Complementing the Italian Renaissance-style Greenhouse, built in 1926, he addition is located adjacent to the current display room and features a Multi-Purpose Room, Resource Center, Kitchen, Gift Shop, and Covered Deck.

Completed in 1998 and covering 11,000 square feet, the Center features a limestone exterior with a wooded, beamed entry-way, conducive to the natural surroundings of Pilcher Park.  Ample parking will accommodate group tours and bus traffic.  The Center was constructed at a cost of 1.5 million dollars.

Barber-Oberwortmann Greenhouse's ability to attract visitors has been greatly enhanced with the addition.  The Multi-Purpose Room allows for flower shows and a variety of exhibits, as well as space for programmed learning opportunities.  A resource center provides visitors the opportunity to "read more about" their favorite flower or perhaps educate themselves on gardening techniques they can apply at home.  The Resource Center is a haven for school children working on a botany project or completing research for a paper.  A kitchen helps facilitate catered functions, providing a unique facility for a business reception or family celebration.  Another attraction to families and groups alike is the outdoor covered deck featuring patio seating for brown bag lunches or simply, a relaxing rest stop.  Users are also able to take home a memory of their visit with a stop at the Center's gift shop.
